Binge Reading

Filed under: General — Neil Aitken @ 4:50 pm

Other than editing and sorting through my thesis manuscript, I haven’t done much writing since I got back from Idyllwild. I have been reading though…

Fiction
The Electrical Storm by Kerri Sakamoto (1998)
The Last Crossing by Guy Vanderhaeghe (2002)

Poetry
Narrow Road to the Interior and Other Writings by Matsuo Basho, translated by Sam Hamill (1998)
Names Above Houses by Oliver de la Paz (2001)
Hip Logic by Terrance Hayes (2002)
Road Atlas by Campbell McGrath (1999)
Miracle Fruit by Aimee Nezhukumatathil (2003)
Bellocq’s Ophelia by Natasha Trethewey (2002)

When I’m up for it, I’ll try my hand at writing a few reviews.

Thank you. Your words carried a lot of power, kindness. I’m actually moving to CA in a month or so, San Fran, not sure how far that is from Riverside, but I’ll be there.

San Fran is a city of longing — I think you’ll like it there. Riverside is in southern California, almost desert country. If you were driving from Vegas, you’d probably pass Riverside on the way. Here the longing is different — we want the ocean, I want the cold, everywhere there is a dry dust sky.
